At a glance

Choosing within wall sconces

Hardwired sconces need a junction box and generally an electrician; plug-in versions trade a visible cord for a job you can do yourself; battery and rechargeable versions need neither but need charging. Up-and-down fittings wash the wall in both directions and read as softer than a single downward beam.
